Brand & design studio · Berlin / Tbilisi
Independent designer and art director building visual systems for studios, publishers, and consumer brands since 2014.
I help founders, editors, and small teams turn fuzzy ideas into visual systems that travel well across print, screen, and motion.
Trained as a graphic designer in Moscow and Berlin, I've spent the last decade working in-house at independent publishers and as a freelance art director for studios between Lisbon, Tbilisi, and New York. The work I take on tends to be long-form: a year-long identity build, a quarterly editorial system, a digital product from blank canvas to launch.
I keep the studio deliberately small so every project gets a single senior pair of hands from kickoff to final art. No account managers, no handoffs, no surprises.
Design is the part of the strategy you can hold in your hand. — Personal note, 2018
Each engagement usually starts with a short diagnostic week and then settles into one of these tracks. Engagements can run from a single sprint to a multi-year retainer.
Naming, marks, typography, color, voice, and the practical guidelines that let a team run with it. From early-stage positioning to full identity refreshes.
8–16 weeksMagazines, books, reports, and longform digital. Grid systems, type pairing, image direction, and the unglamorous production work that ships on time.
Per issueMarketing sites, design systems, and product UI for teams of one to twenty. I work in Figma and ship clean, dev-ready specs alongside working prototypes.
4–12 weeksA diagnostic week, a quarterly review, or a one-off second opinion. Useful when a founder needs an outside eye before committing to a bigger engagement.
1–4 daysA small slice of recent engagements. Full case studies available on request.
A full redesign of a 12-year-old quarterly on architecture and urban life. New grid, custom title face, art direction across four issues.
A Norwegian seafood cooperative gets a wordmark, packaging system, and a short brand book.
Marketing site and product UI for a Berlin audio startup, shipped alongside their seed raise.
A Belgian home-textile label: wordmark, hangtags, e-commerce packaging, and a system that scales from a single pillowcase to a full bedding set.
Kind words
Sofia turned our publication into something we'd want to leave on the coffee table — and somehow made the production schedule calmer at the same time.
She thinks like a strategist and ships like a maker. We came in with a vague brand idea and left with a system our team could actually run with.
The rare designer who can run a workshop with a founder on Monday and typeset a 240-page book by Friday. Genuinely senior, no ego in the room.
I take on a handful of new engagements each quarter. Tell me a bit about what you're working on and I'll get back within two business days with next steps or a polite no.
